CAIRO: The Egyptian national team defender Ahmed Hegazy will miss an anticipated encounter against Tanzania on Saturday due to a muscle injury, Youm7 reported.
Hegazy, former Fiorentina defender, has undergone medical tests and will not participate in the game, Egyptian national team doctor said without providing further details on when Hegazy was injured and for how long he will be treated.
One of Zamalek’s defenders; Hamada Tolba and Aly Gabr, will most likely substitute Hegazy.
The final round of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers will take place on Saturday at the National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam at 05:00 p.m. Cairo local time.
The seven-time African champions need to avoid a 4-0 defeat in order to officially seal their qualification to the AFCON, scheduled to take place in Gabon January 2017. However defeating Tanzania is crucial for Egypt’s FIFA ranking in order to guarantee a favorable draw for the 2018 World Cup CAF qualifying groups.
However, Tanzania will need to win by a margin of at least three goals if they wish to keep their qualification hopes alive.
In the first leg that took place in Cairo in June 2015, the Pharaohs secured a 3-0 win.
The Pharaohs are leading group G with seven points, five ahead of second-placed Nigeria and six clear of third-placed Tanzania.
