CAIRO: Egypt has dropped one position in the FIFA global ranking to be the world’s 45th national team, according to the new standings released Thursday.
The Pharaoh’s position in the African continent remained 5th behind Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Senegal, according to the FIFA standing.
Later this month, the FIFA will issue another ranking after the conclusion of last round of the 2017 African Cup of Nations (CAF) qualifiers in order to specify the four pots for the 2018 World Cup CAF qualification group stage draw.
The Egyptian national football team will be eyeing a win over Tanzania in the final round of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers scheduled for June 4. The win is crucial for Egypt’s FIFA ranking in order to guarantee a favorable draw for the 2018 World Cup CAF qualifying groups.
If the Pharaohs were able to keep their ranking in Africa in the FIFA’s new standings scheduled to be issued later this month, they will secure a place in Pot 1 seeding for the World Cup Qualifications.
The draw for the 2018 World Cup CAF qualification group stage will be held on June 24.
