CAIRO: One soldier has died and another has been injured in two separate incidents late Tuesday, Youm7 reported.
Maghawry Mohamed, 22, reportedly died from a shrapnel injury caused by an explosion in Qawdees district in eastern Arish city and Ibrahim Mohamed, a 22-year-old conscript, was injured after he was shot in his right arm in Rafah city.
Both soldiers were transferred to Arish Hospital in North Sinai.
Meanwhile, security forces remotely detonated five explosive devices detected in different areas in Sheikh Zuwayed, western Rafah and eastern Arish, without leaving any casualties.
The ongoing security operations in the restive northern tip of the peninsula found four hideouts and a tunnel opening used for smuggling, as well as arresting 33 people who were wanted by the police.
In its prolonged fight against extremism, the army has announced killing and arresting hundreds of extremist militants in North Sinai. Since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi, attacks targeting military and police forces in the peninsula have surged, leaving hundreds of soldiers dead.
