CAIRO: Egypt’s Security forces have killed 7 militants and arrested 26 suspects on Saturday in a large scale security clampdown in Northern Sinai, Youm7 reported.
Five militants were killed in armed clashes with security forces in North Sinai’s city of Sheikh Zuwayed while the other two were killed south of Rafah, security source told Youm7.
Two bombs planted by suspected militants south of Arish detonated without reported casualties he added.
Egypt has witnessed a significant rise in militancy since the military-backed ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule. According to the Interior Ministry, militant attacks have killed more than 500 security personnel since then.
In late May, three police personnel and a civilian were injured after a roadside bomb detonated near an armored vehicle in Arish, Youm7 reported a medical official.
Most of roadside bomb attacks took place in Sinai where militant group of the Islamic State has a footing.
