 Egypt slams Qatar’s interference into domestic affairs over ‘espionage case’

Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Qatari interference  into the Egyptian domestic affairs after Qatar denounced mentioning itse in the verdict issued Saturday by Cairo Criminal Court in the case known as ‘espionage for Qatar’.  The court has sentenced former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi to 40 years in jail and upheld death to six other convicts over charges of “leaking top secret information about the state’s national security to Qatar-owned al-JAzeera channel.

Former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi was sentenced to life in prison over charge of “leading a terrorist group,” and he was acquitted of the charge of “disclosing state’s secret information and spying for Qatar,” the Muslim Brotherhood lawyer Abdel-Moneim Abdel-Moaqsoud told Youm7.

Morsi has received three different penalties ranging from life imprisonment, 15 years in jail, to acquittal over a group of charges in the trial known as “spying for Qatar” Saturday. The Cairo Criminal Court also upheld death penalties against six other convict.

 

Women right organizations propose to amend Egypt Civil Status Law

A group of woman right organization has submitted the Egyptian House of Representatives a proposal to amend articles of women rights in the Civil Status Law, Youm7 reported. the amendments aims to make the divorced woman take half of his husband’s fortune.

 

Egypt sends Eritrea medical convoy

Egypt has sent a medical convoy to Eritrea’s Asmara during the period from May 27 to June 10, announced Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement Saturday. “The convoy consisted of 10 members included general supervisor and medical equipment maintenance engineer, in addition to eight doctors of various specialties,” the statement read.

 

Maat: number of absent parliamentarians increased 

The Maat for Peace and Human Rights said in a report Saturday that the number of Parliament members who were absent from the House’s general meetings has increased during the period between May 11 and June 10, Youm7 reported.  However, the reported has been slammed by a number of parliamentarians.

 

House of Representatives Speaker meets with Pakistani, Greek ambassadors to Cairo

Egypt’s House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal met Saturday with the Pakistani ambassador to Cairo Mushtaq Ali Shah for bilateral cooperation. Abdel-Aal also met with the Greek ambassador to Cairo Chris Lazaris who will leave his post.
