Egypt supports Bahrain in measures against Shiite cleric, organization

Egypt expresses “full support” to Bahrain in the measures it has taken against “destabilization attempts,” according to a Monday statement by the Foreign Ministry. Bahrain stripped prominent Shia cleric Isa Qassim of his citizenship Monday, a few days after it closed the officers of Wefaq National Islamic Society, whose members are mostly Shiite.

Judiciary independence activist banned from travelling

Hoda Abdel Wahab, executive director of the Judiciary Independence Center, was banned from travelling to Norway Monday where she was going to participate in a human rights conference. Her name is included in a travel ban list per an Attorney-General Decision; she is also the wife of Nasser Amin, member of the National Council for Human Rights and head of the Arab Center for Judiciary Independence.

Court upholds ruling to allow Ahmed Gaddaf Addam to travel

The Administrative Court rejected a challenge by the Justice Ministry, the Interior Ministry, and the Passports, Emigration and Nationality Administration against an earlier ruling that allows former coordinator of the Libyan-Egyptian relations Ahmed Gaddaf Addam, cousin of late President Muammar Gaddafi.

Egyptian investigators to finish repairing EgyptAir black box memory units “within hours” -official

(Reuters) – Egypt’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee will finish repairing the memory units of crashed EgyptAir flight MS804’s black box recorders on Monday, a high-ranking official on the committee said.
The repairs will be complete “within hours” after which the committee will be able to determine whether or not data extraction will be easy, the official told reporters.

Egypt’s Parliament discusses ‘Qatar’s interference into Egyptian domestic affairs’

Egypt’s Chairperson Deputy of the Foreign Relations Committee at the House of Representatives Ahmed Imbabi said that the committee will held a meeting Sunday to discuss “Qatar’s interference into the Egyptian domestic affairs.”

Qatar denounced mentioning its name in the verdict issued Saturday by Cairo Criminal Court in the case known as ‘espionage for Qatar’.  The court has sentenced former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi to 40 years in jail and upheld death to six other convicts over charges of “leaking top secret information about the state’s national security to Qatar-owned al-JAzeera channel.

Egypt chairs African tripartite meeting at UNSC on Mali

Egypt has chaired a tripartite meeting with Angola and Senegal, the two other member states at the United Nation Security Council, to discuss the latest situations in Mali before extending the presence of peacekeeping forces there, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement Sunday.

Egypt provides Ethiopia 6 million EGP in grants for water cooperation

Egypt has provided Ethiopia 6 million EGP in grants to hold training programs for 50 people in the field of water resources, announced Egyptian Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Atti in a statement Sunday. Cairo also provided Ethiopian scholars and researchers with scholarships that have been funded by the Ministry. Relations between both countries have recently been improved after being strained over the construction of controversial Ethiopian dam. Ethiopia announced that the dam is necessary for its development, while Egypt voiced its concerns about negatively affecting its 55-billion share of the Nile water.

Parliament asks Nasr a plan for repaying Egypt’s foreign debt

The Economic Committee at the House of Representatives will ask Minister of   International Cooperation Sahr Nasr to prepare a plan on repaying Egypt’s foreign debt, said committee member Thoria al-sheikh told Youm7 Sunday.
