Local council elections to take place by end of 2017: PM

Local council elections will be held before the end of 2017, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said in a statement Thursday.

The elections will be held after draft local administration law gets discussed in the parliament, according to Ismail.

Hoax bomb threat delays EgyptAir plane to Turkey

An EgyptAir flight delayed Friday evening after a false bomb threat was reported; Youm7 quoted an official statement from EgyptAir.

The flight, scheduled to depart Cairo International Airport for Istanbul was delayed after a three-hour security inspection, according to the statement.

UNICEF Egypt launches campaign against child abuse

UNICEF Egypt has launched campaign to combat at reducing physical and psychological abuse against Egyptian children, Al Masry Al Youm7 reported.

The campaign calls on parents to develop quiet, gentle and kind ways to bring up their children.

Suspected murderer, drug dealer escape from Alexandria police station

Two detainees escaped from al-Raml police station in Alexandria Thursday while policemen were having iftar at dusk using copies of the keys of their cell, Youm7 reported. One of them is charged with murder and the other with drug dealing.

Residents of Imbaba’s Matar Street to be moved to Ahmed Oraby corridor

The authorities in North Giza are inventorying residential buildings on Matar Street in Imbab, as they will be demolished as part of a project to develop the area with European Union Funds. The locals will be moved to buildings on Ahmed Oraby corridor, Youm7 reported.

Cairo sees high of 39°C Friday

The weather Friday will be moderate on the north coast, very hot in the morning in the rest of the country and relatively nice weather in the evening, according to forecasters. Cairo will see highs of 39°C and lows of 29 °C.

Policeman ordered detained over blackmailing citizens

A low-ranking policeman in Beni Suef, Upper Egypt was ordered detained for four days pending investigations for blackmailing citizens to receive cash and home appliances; another policeman from the same city was ordered apprehended for questioning over the same charge, Youm7 reported Thursday.

Work for Nozha-Assalam metro stations to being next week

The work for the second part of the Fourth Phase of the Metro’s Third Line will begin next week, where five above-ground stations starting from Hesham Barakat station in Nozha until Adly Mansour station in Assalam City will be established, head of the National Authority for Tunnels Tarek Gamal el-Din told Youm7 Thursday.

The project is executed by the Arab Contractors and Orascom, the first Egyptian alliance to implement a metro project at a cost of 5.3 billion EGP.
