EgyptAir MS804 data recorders damaged, sent to France’s BEA for repair

The memory units of the two flight recorders from EgyptAir Flight MS804 were damaged and will be sent to France next week for repairs, a statement by Egyptian investigative committee said.

France’s aviation accident bureau BEA will repair the memory devices and remove accumulated salt from the memory chips before they return to the Civil Aviation Ministry for further scrutiny, according to the statement.

Egypt wins UN Human Rights Council membership at mid-term election

Egypt became a member at the UN Human Rights Council after securing a seat in the mid-term elections carried out Thursday, Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Ambassador Ahmed Fateh Allah will be Egypt’s representative at the UNHRC during the period 2017-2021, according to the statement.

Egypt gold prices have reached all time high on local markets Friday with a gram of 21-carat gold reaching 410 EGP ($45) following Britain’s vote to leave the European Union, Youm7 reported.

A gram of 18-carat gold reached 351 EGP, Ihab Wassef, member of Gold Division of the General Union Chamber of Commerce told Youm7.

Apache Corp extends Western Desert oil drilling for 5 years

The U.S.- based oil and gas exploration firm Apache Corporation has renewed its Khalda-2 drilling concession in Egypt’s western desert for five more years, according to Youm7.

Signing the agreement, which involves adding new 10 wells, was attended by Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Tarek al Mulla.
