Parliament approves Egypt-Saudi loan agreement to develop Sinai

The Egyptian House of Representatives in a plenary session on Sunday approved the Saudi-Egyptian loan agreement worth $ 1.5 billion aimed at developing the Sinai Peninsula, Youm7 reported.

Titled as “King Salman’s program for the development of the Sinai Peninsula,” the agreement was signed by government officials from the two countries in Riyadh in March before it was approved by the two leaders in Cairo in April.

Court adjourns appeal against Red Sea islands deal over judge recusation request

The Supreme Administrative Court adjourned to July 3 the government’s appeal against earlier ruling to nullify a border demarcation agreement between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, Youm7 reported.

The adjournment came after lawyer and former presidential hopeful, Khaled Ali and his team requested the case to be looked into by a different panel of judges.

Egypt’s FM, Norway envoy for ME peace process discuss Palestine-Israel peace talks

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Norwegian Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland and discussed regional and international efforts aiming at resuming Palestinian-Israeli peace talks, Youm7 reported.

The two sides also discussed Middle East peace process ministerial meeting that was held in Paris earlier this month.

Suez Canal chairman attends Panama canal expansion project celebrations

The Suez Canal Authority Chairman Mohab Mamish traveled to Panama to participate in the celebration marking the inauguration of the Panama Canal expansion, Youm7 reported.

The expansion, with a total cost estimated at $ 5.5 billion, was completed Sunday after over 10 years of work. It is scheduled to double the canal’s cargo.

Parliament will not discuss amendments to controversial protest law

Egypt’s Speaker of the House of Representatives Ali Abdel-Aal announced in a T.V. interview that the controversial Protest Law is not on the table for discussion and the government did not carry out any amendments to it.

The protest law, issued November 2013, stipulates that protests can only take place with a police permit. Accordingly, hundreds of people, including activists and students, have been jailed over breaching the law. The controversial law was harshly slammed by politicians and rights groups, locally and internationally, accusing it of being used to punish activists and curb freedom of expression.


Roadside bomb kills 2 conscripts, injures 2 in North Sinai

Two conscripts were killed and two others were injured after a roadside bomb detonated in a passing armored personnel carrier passed. The victims were transferred to Arish Hospital, according to a medical source in North Sinai.

Meanwhile, a military operation in the northern tip of the peninsula has announced killing two militants and injured three others.

4 Thanawya Amma exams rescheduled after question papers leak

The Ministry of Education announced it would cancel the Dynamics exam of the national secondary certificate exam, better known as Thanawya Amma, after it was leaked online shortly after the official start of the exams on Sunday, Youm7 reported.

The exam is scheduled to take place on July 2, said Bashir Hassan, the education ministry spokesperson.

The ministry also announced it has rescheduled other three exams after their questions circulated online hours before they started on Sunday morning.

Egypt, Saudi sign MoU in antiquities, cultural heritage domains

Antiquities Minister Khaled al Anany and head of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage signed a Memorandum of Understanding to boost cooperation between both countries in the field of antiquities, museums and heritage, the antiquities ministry announced Sunday.

741 open areas in Cairo and Giza allocated to perform Eid Al Fitr prayer

Cairo and Giza governorates have allocated a total of 741 open areas for Muslims to perform Eid Al Fitr prayers scheduled for July 5, Youm7 reported.

Two preachers were assigned by the Religious Endowment Ministry to deliver the prayer speech at each mosque.

An Egyptian court suspended the implementation of a Central Bank decree to limit CEO terms on Sunday, according to the lawyer who appealed the decision.

In March, Egypt’s central bank set a 9-year term limit for all bank CEOs which would have forced eight of the country’s banking heads out of their positions.

Egypt’s Beltone Financial has filed a lawsuit against the heads of the Cairo stock exchange and Financial Supervisory Authority over the repeated cancellation of trades on its stock, according to two sources and a court document seen by Reuters.

Head of the Egyptians Abroad Union in Saudi Arabia, Emam Youssef stated that the union has launched an initiative to support tourism in Egypt under the name “We will spend the summer in Egypt.”

Yousef told Youm7 that the initiative aims to encourage tourists to enjoy summer vacation on Egypt’s most famous beaches in Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, Ain Sokhna, Northern Coast and Alexandria.
