Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis leader arrested

The alleged leader of an Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis cell in Beni Suef has been arrested over charges of assassinating an officer from a police station in the governorate and two low-ranking policemen from the Homeland Security.

Beni Suef security directorate had arrested 22 people from the suspected cell and they referred to Abdel Azim M. as their leader and confessed to 23 attacks, Youm7 reported Friday.

Egypt proposes transmitting black boxes’ data during flights at COPUOS

International bodies are studying Egypt’s proposal that data on planes’ black boxes are trasmitted as they fly via satellites because they are sometimes irrecoverable or irrevocably damages when the crafts crash, Egypt’s representative at the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) Alaa al-Nahry told Youm7 in a Friday report.

Nahry spoke to representatives of entities that attend the meetings of COPUOS in the observer capacity, such as the International Telecommunications Union. COPUOS’ 5th session was held in Vienna earlier in June.

Nahry also said he will propose the idea at the meetings of COPUOS’ scientific subcommittee and technical subcommittee in February 2017.

The ill-fated EgyptAir plane’s black boxes were recovered damaged, and while French investigators have repaired the flight data recorder, the voice recorder is still being fixed.

1K cross into Egypt from Gaza in 2 days

A total of 1,014 people crossed into Egypt from Rafah border crossing Wednesday and Thursday, while 806 crossed back into Gaza Strip.

The crossing will continue to be open Friday-Monday. This is the second time the crossing has been opened in one month.

Solar power unit used by militants seized in Central Sinai

A solar power unit, six improvised explosive devices, five circuits, 100 detonators, four Sinai province flags, water, flour, blankets, utensils, 70 batteries, and a preaching book were seized inside a rocky cave in Teret al-Senk Valley in Central Sinai, according to a Friday statement by North Sinai security directorate.

Lawmaker of Matrouh Mahdy al-Omda has contacted sovereign bodies after an Egyptian named Abu Bakr residing in Libya called him to report that a number of Egyptian families are trapped in battles between the Islamic State group and the Libyan army, Youm7 reported Friday.
