Sisi asserts on importance to maintain Egypt’s ‘national unity’

President Abdel Fatah al Sisi asserted on the importance of maintaining “Egypt’s national unity, which has been the hallmark of the country for over two millennia.”

In his Thursday speech during the graduation of a new batch of military officers, Sisi warned against sectarian violence rejecting differentiation between Copts and Muslims.

The statement comes days after three people were killed in a sectarian violence incident that took place in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Minya.

“Copts and Muslims are equal in rights and duties. We all have to pay attention to all attempts made to create a wedge between the nation’s two factions,” said Sisi.


House of commons delegation to visit Egypt next week

A delegation of members of the British House of Commons is expected to visit the Egyptian parliament next week to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two legislative bodies, Mohamed al Orabi, head of the foreign affairs committee at Egypt’s House of Representatives was quoted by Youm7 Thursday.

The delegation is set to visit the Red Sea resort city of Sharm al Sheikh to inspect security situation in a step to resume flights to Egypt after almost one year of suspension following the Russian plane thae crashed over Sinai late October 2015, Orabi said.

In January and following the Egyptian parliament inauguration, a delegation from the UK House of commons visited Egypt and recommended resumption of flights between the two countries, according to state news agency MENA.


Parliament’s fact find committee submits report on wheat fraud allegations

The fact-finding committee, tasked with looking into allegations of corruption in local wheat procurement, has submitted a detailed report on the issue to the House of Representatives, Youm7 reported on Thursday.

The report comes after members of the committee, which was set by the parliament earlier this month, have paid surprise visits to silos across the country during the past two weeks to monitor the quantities and quality of the wheat delivered.

Member of the committee Medhat al Sherif has told Al Ahram “there is evidence that there was false reporting of the delivered quantities.” The committee’s last statement on the issue claimed 200 million EGP was estimated as missing.


Sisi attends graduation ceremony for Military Academy cadets

Egypt’s FM participates in Washington-held ministerial meeting on Palestine-Israel issue

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will participate Wednesday in a Washington-held ministerial meeting unpon a call from High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica

Mogherini , to discuss the developments of the Palestinian issue and efforts to support the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis, state-owned news agency MENA reported.

Shoukry flew to Washington DC on Wednesday to participate in the ministerial meeting of the US-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) militant group, Youm7 reported citing a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry.
