Egyptian assaulted in Jordan in good health; authorities after perpetrators: Ambassador

Egypt’s embassy in Jordan is contacting authorities to “ensure the rapid arrest of the assaulters of the Egyptian national in Amman,” Youm7 quoted a statement.

Ibrahim Mostafa has been reportedly kidnapped and assaulted by four people in Jordan after a fight erupted between him and a Jordanian, Youm7 quoted the consulate sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pictures of Mustafa suffering bruises and wounds were circulated on social media.

The Egyptian national was hospitalized where he underwent surgeries after reported fractures; his case has improved and was released from hospital, according to the Egyptian Ambassador in Jordan Khaled Tharwat.

Tharwat said that the embassy’s lawyer has visited the assaulted Egyptian, and is following up on his legal suitcase to guarantee his right.

He added that the Jordanian Interior Minister is following up on the issue.


Children with disability to be granted nationality: draft law

A draft law for disabilities affairs in Egypt has been discussed Saturday by a parliamentary sub-committee, which has agreed that children with disability can acquire the nationality from their mothers

The citizenship law allows granting that nationality to all children except for those with disability.

Sisi attends celebration marking 1st anniversary of new Suez Canal 

President Abdel Fatah al Sisi arrived in Ismailia governorate on Saturday to attend the celebration marking the 1st anniversary of the New Suez Canal inauguration, Youm7 reported.

During the visit, Sisi had inspected work at the Ismailia twin tube road that will cross the new Suez Canal north of the city of Ismailia. The 4.7 kilometer long tunnel is part of a larger development project in the Suez Canal corridor.

The president also is scheduled to inspect a concrete factory and the first phase of the New Ismailia city which includes around 12,000 housing units.

The $8 billion New Suez Canal project was completed in just one year instead of three on Sisi’s orders. Its inauguration project last year was attended by several world leaders including Francois Hollande and King Abdullah of Jordan.


Lawmaker calls for raising security for public figures after failed assassination attempt of Ex-Mufti

An Egyptian lawmaker has called for “tightening security procedures” to protect public figures and state institutions as a preemptive measure against possible attack by militants, Youm7 reported Saturday.

The remarks, made by lawmaker Hamdy Bakhit, who is also a member of the Committee of Defense and National Security, come after an assassination attempt of Egypt’s former Mufti has failed on Friday.

New website to promote Egypt’s touristic attractions: Minister 

The Ministry of Tourism will launch Sunday a website to promote for Egyptian tourist attractions, announced Yehia Rashed in a statement.

The website comes as a part of a cooperation protocol between the Ministries of Tourism and Telecommunication in order to boost Egyptian tourism.

Evaluation underway to develop school curricula: Education Min.

Minister of Education El-Helaly el-Sherbeiny said that the ministry is evaluating the curricula to develop them starting from primary stage, during a Saturday conference.

Sherbeiny added that 85 percent of the ministry’s budget are spent on salaries and bonuses, while only 15 percent is allocated for the educational process, citing the reason is the huge number of employees at the ministry.


Low-income people will be “taken into account” in new electricity prices: minister 

Egypt’s Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said he will soon unveil new rate categories for electricity consumption in a bid to trim the state’s subsidies for the electricity sector, Al Ahram reported on Friday.

“The low-income people will be taken into consideration when setting the new tariff,” Shaker said in an interview on Dream TV Channel. He added that the new prices have been already introduced in July and will be applied retrospectively.

In July 2015, Egypt has raised electricity prices for mid-to-high household usage by an average of 19 percent, for the second consecutive year as part of a five-year plan to lift electricity subsidies.

Egypt’s electricity consumption is much higher than the minimum electricity requirement in low income countries, according to a report issued by the World Bank in September 2015.

Zewail body, family members to arrive in Egypt Saturday

The body of late Egyptian chemist and Nobel Laureate Ahmed Zewail will arrive in Cairo International Airport on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. aboard EgyptAir flight MS 986 coming from New York, Youm7 quoted Sherif Fouad, Zewail City for Science and Technology’s media advisor and spokesperson.

All his family members will accompany him, said Fouad, adding that his body will be escorted to a military hospital in Cairo before the burial on Sunday morning.

Fouad announced earlier a military funeral will be held for Zewail at New Cairo adding that President Abdel Fatah al Sisi, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and other statesmen will be present. And then, another funeral will take off from Zewail City for Science and Technology, where researchers and students can attend to bid farewell to the great chemist.

Egypt’s border guards foils attempt by 72 people to illegally immigrate to Italy

Border guards at Egypt’s Mediterranean governorate of Kafr el Sheikh have foiled an illegal immigration attempt and prevented 72 people from various nationalities from boarding a boat and crossing the sea to Italy, Youm7 reported Saturday.

The arrested are from Egypt, Somali, and Sudan. They have admitted to have paid an anonymous middle man to facilitate their boat trip to Italy.

They, along with the boat crew, were arrested over attempting to illegally leave the country before they were taken to a nearby hospital where they received medical care before being handed over to prosecutors for investigation.

Egypt has intervened in a number of migration attempts by hundreds of asylum seekers from the Middle East and North Africa, particularly from Egypt Syria, Iraq and Libya, via the Mediterranean Sea to Italy or Greece as gates for other European countries.


Egypt’s furniture products exports to Israel hit 4.4 mln EGP in 1st quarter of 2016: report

Egypt’s exports of furniture products to Israel has reached 4.4 million EGP ($495.6) during the first quarter of the year 2016, according to an official report by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The report mentioned that Egypt’s total exports of furniture products during the same period of the year have reached 766 million EGP for 37 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Israel, Sudan, France, Iran and China.

Egypt to repay $14.9 bln worth of mature deposits over 10 year: CBE official

Egypt will re-pay $14.9 billion worth of mature foreign deposits over coming 10 years, amid the crisis of hard currency shortage that Egypt faces while the reserves hit only $17.5 billion, Youm7 reported a top official at the Central Bank of Egypt Saturday.

It was reported in May that a $2 billion deposit from the UAE was paid to Egypt. The deposit was a part of $4 billion payment that has been recently pledged to Egypt by Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan during his visit to Egypt in April.


Egypt receives offers from international banks to help put forward bonds in dollar globally

Egyptian Finance Minister Amr Garhi  has asked certain international banks to help the Ministry put forwards bonds in dollar in the global markets, al-Maal news reported Saturday. Egypt has already received offers from certain banks, he noted.

He added in a press conference that the international banks’ outlook for Egyptian economy is good and help attract new investments.

Egyptian pound steady against U.S. dollar Saturday: CBE

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) kept the value of pound steady against the U.S. dollar in Saturday, according to the latest figures from the CBE.

This auction preserves the value of the pound at 8.8571 against the U.S. dollar in the banks, which will sell the dollar to clients at 8.8800 EGP.

Bike marathon in Giza Pyramid area to increase awareness against Hepatitis C virus threats

The National Council For Women has organized a bike marathon in the vicinity of Giza Pyramid Friday in the Egypt’s Hepatitis Day , al-Masry al-Youm reported.

Ground subsidence occurs in Cairo Citadel

A ground subsidence has occurred in Cairo Citadel several days ago. The Ministry of Antiquities has formed a committee to inspect the subsidence, Youm7 reported.

Supreme Council of Antiquities Secretary General Mostafa Amin said there is no danger on the visitors and the workers are on marinating the area.
