Israeli PM will not visit Egypt in September: statement

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled foreign visits during September did not include Egypt, according to a statement from Netanyahu’s office Tuesday.

The statement issued after some Arab media outlets reported that Netanyahu would visit Egypt soon to attend inauguration of a synagogue after being restored in Alexandria.

 

Former chief of CAO calls for ‘public trial’

Former Chairperson of the Central Auditing Organization (CAO) Hesham Geneina has called for an open trial over the charges he face, saying that his trial and investigations did not follow stipulated legal measures.

He added in an interview with AlAraby Television Network that he did not meet with President Sisi since being removed from the CAO presidency.

Geneina is being tried over remarks to the media that a total of 600 billion EGP ($75 billion) was stolen from public money due to the corruption over 2015. Attorney General Nabil Ahmed Sadek imposed a media gag on investigations in January 2016 .

 

Call to write off names of ElBaradei, Aymoun Nour from Lawyers’ Syndicate

Member of the Egyptian Syndicate of Lawyers Abu El-Naga Mehrizi has called for writing off names of former Vice-President Mohamed ElBaradei and politician Ayman Nour from the Syndicate, Parlmany reported Monday.

Mehrizi added that he will file a lawsuit against ElBaradei over U.S. invention in Iraq in 2003 when he served as the International Atomic Energey Agency (IAEA) Secretary General, and over his objection to the dispersal of pro-Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins of Rabaa and Nahda,the website added.

 

9 accused people re-detained for 15 days over probes into belonging to IS affiliate

Supreme State Security Prosecution, headed by General Counsel Tamer Ferjany, renewed Monday the imprisonment of nine people accused of belonging to the militant Islamic State affiliate in Egypt to 15 years pending investigations, Youm7 reported.

The accused were recently arrested to be involved in the case, which already includes a total of 121 defendants.

 

Egypt’s military forces foil terrorist attack against security checkpoint in N.Sinai

Military forces have foiled a terrorist attack against a security checkpoint in restive North Sinai’s Sheikh Zewuid, announced Military Spokesperson Mohamed Samir in a statement Monday evening.

Samir added that a military man at the checkpoint has fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) against a bomb pickup truck. After being clashed with the militants, armed forces gunned down them.
