Sisi extends military protection for public facilities for more 5 years

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has decreed to extend work by Law No. 136 of 2014, which empowers the military to protect public facilities and vital institutions for a period of 5 years.

The decree will come into force on October 28, 2016, according to the statement publishied in the official newspaper al-Waqaei al-Masryia Wednesday.

 

Minister of Tourism talks with Russian delegation resumption of flights to Egypt

Egyptian Minister of Tourism Yahya Rashid has arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh to meet with high-level Russian delegation to discuss the ways of returning the suspended Russian flights to Egypt, Youm7 reported.

Following the crash of Russian passenger flight in Central Sinai late October 2015 and claimed lives of more than 220 passengers abroad, Russian authorities have suspended flights to Egypt while other countries imposed travel ban on flights to Sharm el Sheikh Airport where the plane took off. Intelligence bodies reached that the plane was downed by a terrorist act.

 

Egypt’s presidency denies purchasing 4 jets from France’s Dassault Aviation

The Egyptian Presidency denied media reports claiming that it has purchased new 4 air jets from France’s Dassault Aviation, presidential source told Youm7, describing the reports as “baseless.”

The remarks came hours after Le Tribune said that Egypt signed a Contract with Dassault Aviation to “buy 4 business jets Falcon 7X for 300 million Euros.”

 

Egypt’s FM, Lebanese PM discuss presidential vacuum

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Tuesday with Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam in Beirut and discussed solutions to end the presidential vacuum in Lebanon, which has been ongoing since 2014.

Lebanon has been without a president since the end of former Lebanese President Michel Suleiman’s term in 2014, which was followed by deep disagreement among Lebanese political powers.

Shoukry arrived in Beirut on Monday in a three-day visit where he also met with his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil and discussed ways to help rival Lebanese political groups find common ground.

Shoukry also met with Speaker of the Lebanese House of Representatives Nabih Berri on Tuesday and discussed the political situation in Lebanon.

 

Sisi, housing minister review progress in under-construction administrative capital

President Abdel Fatah al Sisi on Tuesday met with Housing Minister Moustafa Madbouly to discuss the progress in the construction of the country’s new administrative capital city, Youm7 reported.

During the meeting, Sisi and Madbouly also reviewed latest efforts to establish a number of new cities across the country.

 

Border guards arrest two Syrians over illegal immigration attempt to Libya

Border guards in Egypt’s Mediterranean city of Matrouh thwarted an attempt by two Syrians to infiltrate into Libyan territories via the Sallum border crossing on Tuesday, Youm7 reported.

Hundreds of migrants, both Egyptians and foreigners, have been regularly arrested at the Sallum border in attempts to travel to the oil-rich country, despite government’s warnings of deteriorated security situation there.

 

Trial of 104 brotherhood defendants over violence charges adjourned to Sep. 27

Cairo Criminal Court on Tuesday adjourned the trial of 104 defendants; allegedly belong to the Muslim Brotherhood group to September 27, Youm7 reported.

The defendants face numerous charges including committing acts of violence and murder in Cairo’s Daher district following the dispersal of sit-ins of the Muslim Brotherhood supporters in Cairo and Giza in August 2013.
