Death toll among Egyptian pilgrims rises to 33: health minister

The death toll among Egyptian pilgrims has climbed to 33, Assistant Health Minister Ali Hegazy was quoted by Youm7 on Wednesday.

All the cases died of natural causes, including heat exhaustion, high blood pressure and hypertension, he said, adding that their ages ranged from 57 to 86.

Some Egyptian pilgrims start to leave Mina for Mecca on Wednesday morning after having finished the stoning of the Devil rituals.

Egyptair announced an airlift to ferry pilgrims back will start on Saturday.

 

Paralympics 2016: Egypt’s powerlifter Mohamed El Dib wins gold medal, sets new record

Egyptian powerlifter Mohamed el Dib won a gold medal and set a new record in the men’s -97 kg category at the Rio 2016 Paralympics on Tuesday.

El Dib, 37 broke the Paralympic record after lifting 237 kg in his first attempt. Dong Qi of China won a silver medal after lifting 233kg while Mexico’s Jose de Jesus Castillo Castillo came third after lifting 229 kg.

His medal increased Egypt’s tally at Rio to nine medals; three gold, three silver and three bronze.

Egypt’s sitting volleyball team qualified to the semi finals at Rio after defeating US team 3-0 on Tuesday.

 

Egypt naval forces foil two illegal immigration attempts to Europe

Egyptian naval forces foiled two separate illegal migration attempts to Europe by 440 people, Youm7 reported on Wednesday.

A unit of sea troops intercepted a boat near Alexandria and found it was carrying 198 illegal immigrants of different nationalities, including Egyptians, Sudanese, heading to Europe, security sources told Youm7.

Naval forces also managed to stop another boat carrying 242 immigrants from different nationalities, in addition to five crew members near Alexandria.

The migrants and the crew members were taken to a naval base where they received medical care and where legal proceedings are being taken, the source added.

Egypt has intervened in a number of migration attempts by hundreds of asylum seekers from the Middle East and North Africa, particularly from Egypt Syria, Iraq and Libya, via the Mediterranean Sea to Italy or Greece as gates for other European countries.

 

Powerlifters Randa Mahmoud, Mohamed El Dib win gold medals in Rio Paralympics

Egyptian powerlifter Randa Mahmoud has won the gold medal in the 86kg category at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, pushing up Egypt’s total medals to ten. Also, Mohamed El Dib won a gold medal in the 97kg category at the Rio Paralympics.

 

Death toll among Egyptian pilgrims rises to 30

The death toll among Egyptian pilgrims rose on Wednesday to 30, Head of the Egyptian medical Hajj mission Ali Hegazi was quoted by Sabah On talk show on ON T.V. as saying.

In coordination with the Saudi authorities, the operation room of the mission have finalized legal procedures to bury all the deceased upon death, said Maher.

All the cases died of natural causes, including heat exhaustion, high blood pressure and hypertension, he added.

All the Egyptian pilgrims, estimated at 87,000, have successfully ascended Arafat Mount to perform hajj’s cornerstone ritual on Sunday. Arafat Mount is where Prophet Mohammed delivered his final sermon before he died.

 

Egypt resumes talks with AVIC on electric train

The Egyptian Ministry of Transport has resumed the suspended negotiations with the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) to implement the project of electric train for the new administrative capital, Youm7 reported.

Few hours before signing the contact between both sides in January during the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Cairo, the negotiations have been frozen. The train road will be 68 kilometers with 14 stations.

 

Egypt offers tender among Japanese companies in October to carry out 4th line of Cairo Metro

Chairperson of the Central Department for Planning, National Authority for Tunnels Tareq Abu al-Wafa, announced that Egypt will offer a tender among a group of Japanese companies in October to carry out the establishing and the drilling of the first phase of the fourth subway line with 19 kilometers and the number 17 station, Youm7 reported Wednesday.

 

Alexandria Mediterranean Countries Film Festival kicks off Sept. 21

The 32th round of the Alexandria Mediterranean Countries Film Festival will kick off on Sept. 21 with participation of 90 films from 33 countries, Youm7 reported Tuesday.

The festival will last for seven days and Russia is the guest of honor; the festival will be held under the slogan of “Cinema against Terrorism,” according to the official website of the festival.
