Sisi meets with U.S. National Security Council in New York

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met with members of the U.S. National Security Council in New York City, on the sidelines of the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday, said Egytpian Presidential Spokesperson Alaa Youssef in a statement.

President Sisi tackled the latest development on the Egyptian arena over the past few years; he also discussed Egypt’s counter-terrorism efforts in North Sinai, Youssef added.

Economically, Sisi talked about the Egyptian economic reform program, which imposed on the country harsh decisions of reducing the subsidies.

Egyptian, Greek Defense Ministers talk cooperation in Cairo

Minister of Defense Gen. Sedky Sobhy has met with Cairo-visiting Greek Minister of National Defense  Panos Kammenos, according to a statement on the Egyptian ministry website on Thursday.

The two sides discussed ways of joint military cooperation and strengthening the relations between the two countries.

 

788 Palestinian pilgrims cross Rafah border crossing to Gaza Thursday

A total of 788 Palestinian pilgrims will return back home Thursday exceptional re-opening of Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza, Youm7 reported an Egyptian official at the crossing.

The first group of pilgrims has crossed into Gaza on Sunday after it opened in both directions for four days to allow the Palestinian pilgrims return back home after coming from Saudi Arabia where they performed pilgrimage ritual.

For five days, the crossing opened on Sept. 4 to allow passage of urgent humanitarian cases, sick people and permit holders.

The opening of the crossing between Egypt’s North Sinai province and Palestine’s Gaza Strip marks the second time this week. It was opened on Tuesday – Thursday and allowed over 1,600 Palestinian pilgrims to travel through the border.

 

Technical, financial talks on Egypt’s 1st NPP ended with Russia’s Rosatom

Egyptian Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker announced that the consultations on technical and financial aspects concerning Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which will be constructed on Egyptian Mediterranean city of Marsa Matrouh, have been completed with Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation.

In November 2015, an agreement was signed between the two countries to finance and build four reactors in the first phase. Russian state-owned Rosatom will construct the plant, and the first reactor will begin operating by 2020.

 

2 policemen killed, 2 others injured in Arish

Two policemen were killed and two others were injured after a group of militants opened at them while they were patrolling in Arish city of North Sinai on Thursday, Youm7 reported.
