Egyptian museum selects 9 military objects for October piece of month vote

The Egyptian Museum of Antiquities selected 9 artifacts highlighting the Egyptian army history to be put to vote on Facebook for its “October piece of the month,” the antiquities ministry said in a statement Monday.

The move comes to mark the 43rd anniversary of the Egyptian army’s victory in the 6 October War.

Among the selected artifacts are a group of Egyptian lancers carved in wood from the tomb of Prince Mesehti in Asyut, a limestone statue of the 11th dynasty Theban General Antef, chief general of King Mentuhotep II, seated and wearing a wig as well as an alabaster statue of the 18th dynasty King Tuthmosis III, said Sabah Abdel Razek, Director General of the Egyptian Museum.

She explained that the selected objects show the role of the Egyptian army throughout the ancient times and the weapons they used in their battles against invaders.


Trump pledges to combat terrorism in ME if elected: advisor

Trump Foreign Policy Adviser Walid Phares said that the Republican candidate will endeavor to counter terrorism if he was elected.

In a phone call aired on ON TV Monday, Phares asserted Trump’s commitments to combat militants groups operating in Egypt, Syria and Libya and will spare no effort to achieve peaceful solution in S.Sudan.

The remarks came few hours ahead of the anticipated presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump that took place Monday night at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.


Owner of Beheira capsized migrant boat arrested

Security forces arrested the owner of the boat that drowned off Egypt’s Mediterranean coast last week with over 600 illegal migrants on board, Youm7 reported on Tuesday.

Beheira Security Chief Alaa el Din Shawky said two people smugglers and a boat crew member were also arrested over involvement in the disaster. As many as 178 bodies have been pulled out of the water so far, health ministry announced in a statement on Monday.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail has directed to send an additional battleship to help in recovering the boat, Beheira Governor Mohamed Sultan was quoted by Youm7 on Tuesday.


500m EGP allocated to develop cairo-Alexandria agricultural road

Transport Minister Galal al Saeed announced the allocation of 500 million EGP ($57m) to the Cairo-Alexandria agricultural road rehabilitation project, Youm7 reported on Tuesday.

The ministry has completed a major part of the development of the road, which links between Egypt’s major cities, Saeed said.

He added the project will be completed by mid 2017.


Mild weather prevails over Egypt Tuesday

Egyptian meteorologists expect that a mild weather to prevail over the Mediterranean cities and calm over Cairo and other Upper Egypt on Tuesday, Youm7 reported.

Low clouds gather over the northern cities, and accompanied by northwestern winds that turn active in Suez Gulf, Aqaba Gulf, and Red Sea.
