Cabinet denies rising prices of housing units, medicines after pound floating
The cabinet has denied raising prices of housing units booked by citizens amid surge in dollar exchange rate against the Egyptian pound.
It also assured there is not rise in prices of medicines as a result of the Central Bank of Egypt’s decision this week to float Egyptian pound.
6 bln EGP allocated for developing unsafe slum areas in Egypt
Prime Minister Sherif Ismail ordered to allocate 6 billion EGP to finalize developing unsafe slum areas as encouraged by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, Youm7 reported.
The government’s plan aims to improve the livelihood of around 63,000 Egyptian families taking risk by living in these areas. Development works are due in two years.
In Egypt, the number of unsafe slum areas is around 351, where 850,000 people are residing.
Sisi reviews economic situation with Cabinet
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held a meeting with the cabinet on Sunday, discussing the government’s efforts of combating the corruption of the administrative bodies and the government’s latest economic decisions, particularly the flotation of the Egyptian currency, Presidential Spokesperson Alaa youssef said in a statement on Sunday.
The meeting also tackled the government’s efforts to get rid of the parallel market and the High Investment Council’s recent decisions that have been taken a week ago, the statement added.
President also affirmed that all basic goods should be provided to all people with reasonable prices, noting that the Ministry of Supply should intensify its efforts to prevent merchant’s monopoly, the statement continued.
Egypt arrests on 665 unregistered migrants at western border with Libya
Egypt’s border guards arrested 666 unregistered migrants from different nationalities along the western borders with Libya over the 24 hours, Egyptian Armed forces said in a statement on Monday.
The military has previously announced arresting hundreds of people over illegal immigration at Egypt’s different borders, which have witnessed heightened security measures to curb the illegal practice.
PM announces establishment of national museum for Egyptian civilization
Prime Minister Sherif Ismail issued a decision on Monday to establish a national museum for Egyptian civilization, Youm7 reported the cabinet’s statement.
The Museum will locate in Cairo come under the authority of the Ministry of Antiquities, the statement added, noting that it will collect a set of Egyptian antiquities from different eras via using high modern technologies.
No increase in train ticket price: official
The Egyptian National Railways chairperson announced that there will not be an increase in the train ticket price on Monday after the government increased the price of fuel, youm7 reported.
He added that the authority bear the costs of any increase in the ticket price, which would reach 15 to 20 percent.
No increase in prices of subsidized housing units: minister
Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouli said on Monday that the government will not increase the prices of subsidized housing units that citizens applied for, Youm7 reported.
His comments came during ceremony of delivering a total of 4, 920 subsidized housing units to Sawan residents.
