Unstable weather expected in Egypt next week: meteorological authority
Egypt is expected to witness “unstable” weather starting Tuesday with heavy rains in the Delta and the Northern Coast, the Meteorological Authority announced in a statement Thursday.
The wave of unstable weather is expected to reach its peak on Wednesday and Thursday with rain covering the whole country including Cairo and torrential rains, thunder and lightning over the Red Sea Mountains and Sinai, the statement read.
Moderate rainfall is also expected in Upper Egypt.
Temperatures will notably drop with strong wind and thick mist in the early hours of the day that on most of the country’s highways, according to the statement.
The authority called on bodies concerned to take necessary measures to prevent road accidents and also called on people to wear heavy clothing and stay away from maritime activities.
Justice Minister accepts resignation of judge caught in cannabis possession
Egypt’s Justice Minister Mohamed Hossam Abdel Reheim on Thursday accepted the resignation of a judicial body member, after reportedly being arrested in possession of cannabis, Youm7 reported.
“The procedure comes in accordance with the principle of the independence of the judiciary, and it represents a living example of the self-purification of the Egyptian judiciary,” the justice ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The judge was reportedly arrested in a private car in the Ahmed Hamdi tunnel under the Suez Canal after security forces searched the car with drug-sniffing dogs and found packs of cannabis.
Investigations carried out by the Suez prosecution revealed that the role of the judge, with judicial immunity granted to him, was to transport the cannabis into Sinai’s Sharm al Sheikh for 20,000 EGP (about$1,400.)
Ghana football team to arrive in Egypt Sat. ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifier clash
Ghana’s national football team will arrive in Cairo Saturday a day before their anticipated encounter against the Pharaohs in the second round of the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifiers, Youm7 reported.
The Black Stars will be coming from Dubai where they have been camping since Monday in preparation for the clash scheduled to take place in Alexandria’s Borg al Arab Stadium on Sunday.
“We understand the importance of the match to the Egyptians. The players are focused on getting the victory and winning the three points,” Egypt coach Hector Cuper was quoted by Al Ahram Monday.
The Egyptian team is leading the group with two points more than Ghana and Uganda with Congo bottom of the table.
Egypt’s prison authority to pardon 193 inmates
Egypt’s Prison Authority has finalized reviewing cases of 193 inmates scheduled to be pardoned in accordance to a presidential decree recently issued in honor of the 6 October War anniversary, Youm7 reported Thursday.
The authority said it will grant the release order of 107 prisoners and conditional release for other 86.
‘’This comes in accordance with the Interior Ministry’s keenness to apply the values of human rights,” the statement read.
In September, President Abdel Fatah al Sisi has issued a presidential decree to pardon some prisoners ahead of the occasions of the 6 of October War victory and Eid al Adha.
A parliamentary committee was formed last week by the president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to review the cases of Egyptian youth detainees and prepare a list for detainees qualify for the pardon
Housing min, Cairo governor review Tall el Aqareb slum development project
Housing Minister Moustafa Madboly and Cairo Governor Atef Abdel Hamid on Thursday reviewed the progress realized so far in the development project of Tal Al Aqareb slum area in Cairo’s Al Sayeda Zeinab district, Youm7 reported.
The two officials reviewed the development in the evacuation of 3,500 people from 195 residential buildings in the area and their temporary re-housing in the 6 October City until the new residential units are completed.
The project, with a total cost estimated at 190.5 million EGP, is being implemented by the Slum Area Development and the Central Agency for Reconstruction in collaboration with Cairo governorate.
