Dr. Amr Moussa was elected as chairman of the 50-member committee tasked with amending the Constitution, winning the post over his rival Sameh Ashour, President of the Bar Association.
Moussa received 30 votes, versus16 votes for Ashour. Two votes were canceled, and two others did not vote.
The new president of the committee said the constitution will be drafted in order to ensure pluralism, human rights and the separation between powers.
He added that Egypt is a country “we should be proud of,” and “we must be faithful to it.”
