Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor was subjected to death threats by One Direction fans after injuring band member Louis Tomlinson.
They were playing in Stiliyan Petrov’s retiring match, the former Aston Villa player who was forced to retire due to leukemia, a charity match at Celtic Park when Agbonlahor the 26-year-old forward tackled the singer.
Fans of the band are furious with a Gabriel Agbonlahor challenge that left singer Louis Tomlinson injured and vomiting on the pitch.
The challenge looked physical but relatively harmless, and Tomlinson was left writhing in pain for a moment before limping off the field and leaving his lunch behind him.
Twitter exploded, with some fans of the band – known as “Directioners” – sending Agbonlahor death threats.
On fan tweeted:”This guy hurt Louis knee. I shall hurt your face. I better hear that you apologized or I will find you, and I will kill you”.
Another one tweeted:” DON’T EVER TOUCH LOUIS AGAIN WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE”
Gabby Agbonlahor has apologized for his tackle on One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson during Stiliyan Petrov’s charity match at Celtic Park.
Agbonlahor told the mirror: ‘It was just one of those things. I’ll apologies to Louis when we meet up with everybody else after the game, I know he enjoyed playing the game and it’s fantastic that he took time out to be here and the same with everybody who played”.
Petrov’s XI beat Celtic XI 5-3 thanks to a Dimitar Berbatov hat-trick as 60,000 turned out for the event, Henrik Larsson scored for the hosts, while Jamie Redknapp, John Terry and Robert Pires were among the special guests to feature.
