CAIRO: New investments are expected to boost public transportation in Cairo, as several proposals were examined during the High Committee of Investment’s meeting at the Ministry of Transport, chaired by Minister Ibrahim el-Demeiry on Tuesday.
New metro lines are to be introduced such as the fifth Nasr City line, the sixth Maadi line, as well as high-speed trains in Alexandria, Giza, Asyut, Luxor and Aswan, in addition to developing railway infrastructure in Abu Qir and Alexandria, according to the minister.
Demeiry said the committee also discussed investing more in cargo trains and river transport.
A new railway line will be created to connect important suburbs such as 6th of October in Giza, 10th of Ramadan City near Cairo and Borg al-Arab in Alexandria, Demeiry said.
