The Egyptian Army has destroyed 154 tunnels as well as 108 fuel groves in the Sinai in an effort to combat terrorism, according to military spokesman Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali.
In a press conference on Sunday, Ali said that the army, supported by police forces, is focusing its campaign in the regions of Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid in northern Sinai.
Ali said that the responsibility of securing the border is shared, and “Hamas has to show mutual cooperation, so as to avoid infiltration of terrorist elements.”
In Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid, eyewitnesses told Youm7 that Egyptian military Apache helicopters launched air strikes two days ago, as well as raids on ground.
Tribal sources in north Sinai said that armed leaders and takfiris, Islamic fundamentalists who accuse other Muslims of apostasy, left their homes a week ago to unknown destinations.
