Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS)

Arabic:مركز القاهرة لدراسات حقوق الانسان

Founded 1993

The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) is an independent non-government organization aiming to promote strict principles of human rights and democracy, specifically as they pertain to International Human Rights Law and the dissemination of that culture within the Arab world.

Led by general director Bahey el-din Hassan, the institute works to advocate human rights on the local, regional, and national levels through research and education. According to the group’s website, it aims to foster youth and professional development opportunities alike. A key factor of its work is the mobilization of key players and NGOs within the Arab world, working on the most pressing human rights issues.

Raising public awareness and reaching solutions are vital for the institute’s growth while it also works on a consultative basis with the United Nations ECOSOC and the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights.
