The decision of Egypt’s 50-member constitutional committee to criminalize discrimination and torture is a “positive step,” said rights activist Baha Anwar.

Speaking to Youm7, Anwar said that the two articles drafted by the committee would curb discriminatory behavior against Copts, Shiites, Baha’is, and Sinai’s Bedouins.

Anwar also demanded tougher penalties against those involved in inciting hatred or torture, and stressed the need to ratify these articles.
