CAIRO: The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) is working on implementing international criteria of human rights in Egypt’s prisons and places of detention in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, said the head of the council Mohammed Fayek on Saturday.

He added that the council had approved a plan to visit prisons during its last session, and revealed its intention to amend its regulations to allow members to visit prisons without first seeking permission from the general prosecution.

The statements came during a meeting with Marian Gasser, Head of the mission of the International Commission of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Cairo and Regional Advisor of the committee, Sherif Atlam.

The two parties agreed to sign a joint protocol of cooperation in order to promote and spread the culture of human rights.
