CAIRO: Cairo University has instituted intensive security measures for its new school year, and is the first public university in Egypt to use electronic devices for checking bags.
Major General Mustafa Rashwan, director of security of Cairo University, said that the university has imposed a strict state of security from the first day of school. Rashwan added that he has increased security personnel on the entrances of the university, where bags will be checked, adding that student IDs will now be a requirement to enter the campus.
University officials have agreed to install bag inspection devices to obtain more security within campus for the students’ personal safety, according to Rashwan. Students have the right to demonstrate and express themselves freely, as long as they do not disrupt the education of other students, he added.
