Folk art performances continue at Al-Ghuri Complex
Tanoura dancer - YOUM7 (Archive)

CAIRO: Performance group Tanoura continues to present traditional music and dance concerts at the Wikala Al-Ghuri Complex on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

The group performs folkloric and religious songs with instruments such as al-rababa, a type of stringed instrument, the flute, and drums.

Tanoura, a dance of Sufi origins whose circular movements resemble the whirling dervishes, accompanies the musical performances. The philosophy behind the dance says that the movements must be circular because the universe starts and ends at the same point.
