The Abdeen Court in Cairo ordered the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood on Monday, stripping it of NGO status that had been registered in March.
The decision authorizes the government to seize all organizational funds.
The verdict stated that the Muslim Brotherhood misused Islam, dominated the governmental establishments, adopted violence and threatened Egypt’s national security.
Security forces were tight around the vicinity of the court, and media were prohibited from entering.
Lawyer Mahmoud Abdullah, a member in the leftist Al-Tagammu Party, filed on Monday lawsuit requesting the banning of all Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated organizations.
Abdullah also demanded that the government also freeze the assets of any NGO that accommodates a member of the Muslim Brotherhood or a Freedom and Justice Party.
