The Muslim Brotherhood will appeal its dissolution by Cairo’s Court of Urgent Affairs, said lawyers for the group on Monday.

The court’s ruling declares the Brotherhood illegal, and authorizes the government to seize all of its financial assets and properties.

“I am positive the verdict will be overturned at the first appeal court session because only the Administrative Court of Justice has authority to rule on this case,” said Mohamed Tosson, a lawyer for the Brotherhood.

Judicial law expert Khaled al-Qoushi told the CBC TV channel in a phone interview Monday that the Brotherhood was not an official party, and therefore cannot ask for appeal.

The administrative court is likely to dissolve the Freedom and Justice Party as well, since it is affiliated to the Brotherhood, Qoushi told CBC.
