By: SARA OSAMA SHOUREAP

CAIRO: Public school students in the Shubra neighborhood of Cairo read excerpts from the Bible in the first morning assembly of the new school year on Monday.

The Minister of Education Mahmoud Abou el-Nasr attended the assembly of Mogama’ Madares Esco, Esco School Union.

Students, Muslims and Christians alike, listened to excerpts from the Bible to welcome the start of the school year.
The daily assembly is an Egyptian school tradition which includes the raising of the Egyptian flag, followed by the reciting of the Qur’an, national news and at times, poetry written by the students themselves.
