HELWAN: The National Network of Earthquakes’ stations at the National Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics have recorded a medium strength earthquake around the area of Helwan on Tuesday.

Dr. Hatem Ouda, the head of the institute, told MENA that the strength of the earthquake reached 3.7 on Richter scale at 5:59 p.m. and was centered about 13 – 14 kilometers south of Helwan.

Ouda pointed out that the area where the earthquake took place is seismically inactive, therefore the scientists of the institute will study and analyze the reasons behind the earthquake’s occurrence at that area in order to find out if it has an unknown seismic history.
