No Military Trials for Civilians to meet 50-member committee on Monday

CAIRO: No Military Trials for Civilians will meet the 50-member committee tasked with amending the constitution on Monday Sept. 23 to present their suggestions, according to group coordinator Mona Saif.

Saif said that group members do not accept the summoning of civilians to military courts for any reason, and they had hoped that the military judiciary representative would also attend the meeting, but the 50-member committee held a separate meeting with him several days ago.

Mostafa el-Hagari, spokesman of the April 6 Youth Movement, said that his movement completely supports No Military Trials for Civilians, and requested they release details about the meeting with the 50-member committee.

The Arab Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) recently criticized the military trial and sentencing of journalist Ahmed Abu Deraa on charges of broadcasting false information about the army in September.
