CAIRO: Minister of Tourism Hisham Zaazou emphasized that Egypt is a safe destination to visit during his speech at the annual conference of the German FVW Magazine on Tuesday.
According to Zaazou, tourist delegations who have visited Egypt recently had nothing but positive feedback which he said is a testament to the recent stability witnessed by the country.
The minister blamed Western media for their coverage of recent events in Egypt that may have contributed to the decrease in tourism.
He expressed his frustration regarding the German government’s decision to continue to suspend trips to Egypt, which was made mid-August.
Zaazou met with a number of tourism officials in Germany, including the chairperson of the German Travel Association and executive heads of German tour operators, and also conducted a radio interview with a popular radio station in Germany.
Egypt’s tourism industry has lost $2.5 billion in 2012, and over four million of its employees have lost their jobs, according to Zaazou.
