Sisi campaign claims 2.8 million signatures

CAIRO:  Malaz al-Hakim, coordinator of the Country Request campaign , announced on Thursday that 2.8 million Egyptians want Defense Minister General Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to be their next president.

Country Request was launched on  Sept. 9 by activists on Facebook, and aims to collect 30 million signatures to persuade Sisi to run for president.

Although the general has so far general denied  his intent to run for president, the campaign is continuing to collects signatures.

Hakim told Youm7 the campaign is organizing daily events in 3 governorates, and they will hold a conference on  Oct. 10 at the Journalists Syndicate headquarters in Cairo.

The campaign coordinator added that they collected about 800,000 signatures from the Suez Canal governorates, and 250,000 of them from Ismailia.
