CAIRO: Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Mohamed Abdul Muttalib has launched a national awareness campaign for water conservation on TV and satellite channels, announced the ministry Monday.
The campaign will broadcast some instructions that will advise people to protect water from being wasted or polluted and to prevent the encroachment on the Nile River.
The ministry said the campaign would officially start on Feb. 18 and last for a month on Egyptian state-owned TV channels in addition to Al-Hayat and Mehwar satellite channels.
Abdul Muttalib said Egypt’s water needs are growing due to the increase of population, adding that Egypt’s share of water is 55.5 billion cubic meters and the country faces an annual water deficit estimated as 25 billion cubic meters.
