CAIRO: Mahmoud Aaili, prominent leader in the Free Egyptians Party, warned against drafting a new constitution on Thursday.
Aaili said in a statement to Youm7, “a new constitution is considered a step away from the roadmap which was ratified by the constitutional declaration of interim President Adly Mansour last July.”
“Despite my strong objection to every word in the Muslim Brotherhood’s constitution, we should be committed to the constitutional declaration issued in July for the benefit of the political situation in Egypt,” Alaili said.
Alaili said the 2012 constitution may need amendment in 99 percent of its articles, but stressed that “we should not step away from roadmap.”
The Free Egyptians Party, founded by businessman Naguib Sawiris, emerged after the January 25 Revolution.
