Alistair Burt

CAIRO:Alistair Burt, UK Foreign Office Ministerfor the Middle East and North Africa, said his government is carefully monitoring the consequences of Tuesday’s court ruling banning the Muslim Brotherhood’s activities, in a press release on Thursday.

In the press release published on the British government’s website,Burt said, “I have been clear that whilst we do not support any specific political party in Egypt, we strongly support an inclusive political system which allows all groups in society to be represented and in which freedom of expression is respected.”

The minister also mentioned the recent closure of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice newspaper.

“I believe an inclusive political process leading to early and fair elections which all parties are able to contest offers the best prospects for Egypt’s long-term security and stability.”the minister said.
