CAIRO: The 50-Member Committee tasked with amending the 2012 constitution is considering adopting amendments suggested by the Press Syndicate, a committee source told Youm7 on Sunday.
Diaa Rashwan, head of the Press Syndicate, and some of the Syndicate Council’s members attended the meeting of the Rights and Freedoms sub-committee of the committee amending the constitution on Sunday.
Press Syndicate Undersecretary Gamal Fahmy said the proposed amendments include a ban on imprisonment for publishing cases, except those relating to defamation, inciting violence and provoking sedition.
Fahmy added that the Syndicate suggested a clause which facilitates media outlets’ licensing and guarantees independence of all state-owned media outlets.
