CAIRO: Ten Tamarod Movement leaders will meet over the weekend to compose ideas for constitutional amendments from the Write Your Constitution campaign, according to spokesperson Hassam Shaheen. They will then present their suggestions to the 50-Member Committee, tasked with amending the 2012 constitution.
The Write Your Constitution campaign is working on the streets to collect people’s suggestions for the constitution, and has been welcomed by the people, said Shaheen to Youm7. The most popular suggestions have been to have mandatory articles that guarantee the basic rights of citizens, including health, education, and social justice; to clearly define Egypt’s borders; for monitoring agencies to be independent; and to have the right to send reports directly to the prosecutor general without the minister of justice interfering.
