CAIRO: The news that circulated earlier on Friday that two French tourists were detained in Suez is incorrect, according to an official source from the Ministry of Interior.
“Police suspected two French cyclists wandering in the district of Ganayen and presented them to security authorities to run a background check on their identities,” the source told Youm7 on Friday.
Indeed, investigations revealed that the two tourists’ presence in Egypt was legal, as they had come to Taba for tourism purposes, and were released shortly after, the source continued.
Anadoluy news agency had earlier reported the arrest of the two French tourists “for photographing the Suez Canal without permission.”
