CAIRO: Six districts in Cairo governorate will start a new system of residential garbage collection Saturday under the Cairo governor’s orders to end waste problem in streets.

Cairo Governor Galal Saeed met with district heads to discuss the application of the new system after launching a cleaning campaign in the governorate, according to a release from the governor Saturday.

The residential garbage collection will be applied in six districts in the governorate, including Dar El-Salam, el-Basateen, Sayeda Zeinab, Old Cairo, el-Khalifa, and Moqattam.

Three EGP (43 U.S. cents) will be collected from each housing unit in return for taking away garbage and distributing two different colored trash bags.

Saeed also urged the residents to cooperate with the district heads for the success of the system, and he requested shop owners to put trash bins with written instructions to encourage people to adhere to cleanliness.
