CAIRO: Foreign Affairs Minister Nabil Fahmy met with his Ethiopian counterpart Tedros Adhanom on the sidelines of the Abuja Summit in the Nigerian capital on Feb. 27.
The ministry’s spokesperson Badr Abdel Atty said during a press conference that Fahmy asked the Ethiopian side to carry out the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee of Experts held in 2012, which recommended completing studies of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, especially the part concerning possible environmental impacts.
Fahmy told Adhanom that Egypt does not mind Addis Ababa taking advantage of its right to water resources and development, but said any actions in this regard should not harm Egypt’s water interests.
Abdel Atty said Fahmy offered Egypt’s position on the Renaissance Dam and its importance to Egypt’s water security, as did the Ethiopian minister.
