CAIRO:  Fans of Zamalek Club “White Knights” clashed with security forces in front of Cairo Stadium as they attempted to enter the stadium to attend an ongoing football match, Ashraf Abdullah, assistant minister of interior for Central Security Forces, said on Al-Hayat TV channel Saturday.

Ashraf claimed that there “were attempts to exploit the gathering to cause disasters similar to the Port Said Stadium massacre.”

Zamalek Club had received an official notice Saturday that fans would not be allowed to attend the match.

However, the fans insisted on going to see the match between Zamalek and Angola champions Cabo Schrob, leading to the clashes.
