WASHINGTON: Washington said on Saturday that U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Larry Silverman will temporarily become the United States’ point man on Syria with the departure of Robert Ford on Friday.
Asked about the new appointment, the state department’s spokesperson Jen Psaki said “Nothing to share on that specifically. In the interim, Deputy Assistant Secretary Larry Silverman will be filling in.”
Psaki added that Silverman would stand in until a permanent successor to Ford is named.
“We will soon announce a permanent replacement,” she added.
