CAIRO: Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said Sunday the ministry would avoid sending Central Security Forces into universities.

The minister said security forces would only enter campuses “to protect students” and “repel what might impair the educational process,” he said during his meeting with a delegation of university student unions.

He said the ministry would not allow any attempts to use violence, chaos, or encroachment on institutions during the spring semester.

“Egyptian universities are the citadels of science, and students are the soldiers and the guarantee for the continuation of the country’s present and future progress,” said Interior Minister Ibrahim.

He told the union representative that student leader were key in promoting and advancing the culture of students and paths of political participation in various locations.
