CAIRO: The Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) finished Sunday preparing a ministerial draft on solar energy applications to be submitted to the Ministry of Housing.

The ministerial draft is considered a major step forward in the field of renewable energy in Egypt, said Anhar Hegazy, head of energy unit at IDSC, during a meeting of the  Environmental Compliance Office at the Federation of Egyptian Industries.

The new Cabinet headed by Ibrahim Mahlab is keen on promoting the use of solar energy, Hegazy said, adding that the government should work on an integrated energy strategy to overcome the current energy crisis and achieve self-sufficiency.

The concerned ministries of Housing, Petroleum and Industry should establish an agency to regulate gas production, import and export, Hegazy further said.
