CAIRO: Dahab Hamdy was referred to juvenile court on Sunday after prosecutors revealed that she is only 16-years-old, officials said.
Also known in the media as the “handcuff lady,” Hamdy’s case raised controversy and stirred public opinion after a photograph circulated showing her handcuffed to a hospital bed after giving birth, which angered human rights groups that demanded better treatment due to her health condition.
Dahab, who give birth while under detention, was arrested last January for being accused of participating in Muslim Brotherhood protests in Shubra, Cairo.
Human rights defenders are also calling for her release.
