CAIRO: The Coptic Orthodox Church began preparations for the second commemoration of the death of Pope Shenouda III, who passed away on March 17, 2012 at the age of 88.
The church plans to hold an official ceremony at the Coptic Cultural Center, in Saint Mark Cathedral in Abasseya, in memory of the pope’s death. Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, many bishops, and a number of public figures are expected to attend the ceremony.
A documentary titled “Pope Shenouda’s message to the world’s Christians,” documenting the late pope’s last days at Cleveland Hospital in the U.S., is scheduled to be screened during the ceremony.
Nagy William, the editor in chief of Coptic Al-Mashaheer magazine, told Youm7 Sunday that the magazine, in cooperation with the Coptic Cultural Center, would announce an award in Pope Shenouda III’s name to honor Coptic reporters “who helped enrich Christian media.”
