Interior minister Major General Ibrahim said the security situation in Sinai has returned to normal in a Saturday statement to Youm7.
Stability returned after the success of the police and army’s campaignstargeting “terrorists” in Sinai, according to Ibrahim.
The minister issued directives to tighten controls at all border crossings in Sinai, to prevent the infiltration of “terrorist elements” into the area and to prevent their escape.
Ibrahim said security forces conducted direct operations targeting the training facilities of “extremists”, weapons stores and explosives used in the attacks against security personnel and vital facilities.
He pointed out that the operations in Sinai led to the capture of alarge number of weapons, communication devices, and night vision goggles.
The minister called the arrest of “dangerous extremist figures”such as Adel Habara, “a strong strike to terrorism in Sinai.”
